Bhubaneswar: Eminent sculptor and Rajyasabha Member Padmabibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra passed away this evening. He was 79 and admitted to hospital for treatment of Covid 19 two weeks before. The AIIMS authority at Bhubaneswar has conformed this sad news.
Shri Mohapatra’s two sons were also suffering from Covid and the elder brother is still in ICU. The younger one is in general ward, sources said. Few days before, PM Narendra modi, CM Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed his treatment arrangement at AIIMS and asked the hospital authority to take special care of Shri Mohapatra.
Born in puri, on 24th march 1943, Shri Mohapatra bagged international fame in stone works. He acted as chief of many temple designs and dreamed of a 2nd Konark temple in Puri district to preserve the beautiful and incredible designs.
The master canteen Horse was one of his creations that has attracted many and seen as the icon of Bhubaneswar.
